Dreams and Juxtaposition are major components of my work. I start with dreams and visions which develop into painting ideas. My studio is a collection of toys, colour swatches, notebooks, and collages that trigger memories and images. From these elements I create an imaginative world akin to Jungian or Kabbalistic archetypes, with the symbolism of ancient fairy tales and a twist of surrealism. My paintings hold a metaphoric mirror up to viewer, so that the story they tell is their own.
I start with compiling dreams or visions, writing down keywords, and quick sketches. Then I proceed with more detailed sketches where I work out the composition. Finally I render them in acrylic, oil, collage, or wood, in two or three dimensions. Often I also use paper, texture, symbols, then I rework the piece until i feel a sense of completion, or the piece is abandoned. I often work on several pieces simultaneously as I find that I can solve problems for one piece while I’m working on the other.
